When I hit the dark times I ask myself “why do I try?”,

Because, it feels like I’m in an icy cemetery buried alive.

All I see is black skies and nobody to stand by my side,

Life feels empty and I missed my time to shine.

I hit the end of the road and it seems to be part of my design,

Everyone else’s life is complete, but for me it’s the end of time.

But, when I stare at my frozen life from the ground far below,

I see I have reached a new beginning of mine with my whole life in tow.

It’s just been packed in ice and beautiful winter snow,

Waiting for me to be ready to give another adventure a go.

And I can see the sun shining on a mild spring day,

The birds and the bee’s are coming back out to play.

The world is wonderful and has it’s strange ways,

But, it’s saved a place for you and me whilst letting us rest away.

Everyday enchanted,

A world of second chances.

To rekindle old romances,

And grab our lovers by the waist and take them to the dances.

Forgiving grass to explore with bare feet,

New dreams and journeys for us to seek.

My lady, my world, standing by my side,

Through the universe together we can spread our wings and glide.

I need nobody else, no need to decide,

My feelings you can see that I cannot hide.

In my life is where I need you it’s true,

To share my hopes, my dreams and my thoughts too.

And when I really think it through,

My life is only empty when I am without you.

So when I’m asked why I try when life is so blue,

The answer is simple, that’s because of you, too.

 

*This is a short poem to pay a small homage to my wife and how she has a talent and a knack for getting me out of my dark moments in life. I am affected by these moments maybe a bit more than the average person as I have bipolar disorder, and I know how lucky I am to have my wife to get me through life. So when people ask me “Why do I try?” I answer “Because of my wife.”*
