What are these Thoughts? – A short piece of rhyming poetry to touch upon the nature of thoughts and how they can be so evasive.
Before my mind starts to storm,
And it decides to take me too far from home.
I ask myself “what are thoughts”?
They are everything that we are, an ocean, a port.
They are the possessions we own,
And the feelings we have grown.
Memories of what we have been shown,
And company when we feel alone.
They help us find our edges and boundaries,
And let us exceed them when we start expounding.
They can take us to the beginning of time,
And even teach us to rhyme our own lines.
They are the earth that we walk on,
And the songs to which we sing along.
And the homes that we build,
With the idea’s that we have distilled.
Thoughts are who we are,
They can be more painful than what left a scar.
The feeling in the air that we breath,
That can bring back old memories.
Of the fire in our hearts forged from the loves of our lives,
And the holy water that washes the pain away so we can survive.
We have to balance our thoughts so carefully,
And keep working with what we have cleverly.
Thoughts take up no space and all space in infinity,
That’s what it means to be human, and the spirit of humanity.
