Tribute – A short poem in tribute to my parents

I was lost, I felt so small,

My mum, my dad, they gave their all.

They gave me brothers and sisters, then when we fall,

They taught us to pick each other up and to stand tall.

Even when there was no me, they fought the world,

To give us lives, for us alone to hold.

And even now, growing grey and old,

They muster strength that a warrior would want to behold.

Just to deliver me from evil, it seems foretold,

Both warriors, both brave and both bold.

I wouldn’t have begun,

If not for the difference between them.

They filled me with love, hope and peace,

Now, I’m overflowing like the ocean and sea.

With life and with stories,

With pathways to walk in the forest.

With a home and a place to be,

For a life they worked endlessly to give to me.
